Five Tips to Honor Family Traditions in Your Wedding

Family traditions are a great way to make your wedding meaningful. We encourage you to think about how you can incorporate your heritage, heirlooms and traditions into your special day. Some ideas to get you started:

Tip # 1
Follow the lead of our bride, Alessandra, who attached her grandmother's cameo to her bouquet (image below). A treasured heirloom such as your grandmother's cameo or a string of pearls added to your bouquet is a beautiful way to honor a beloved family member.

Tip # 2

Does your family love a certain dance—say, the Cha-Cha Slide? If so, make that the first dance at the reception to get everyone out on the dance floor.

Tip # 3
If there are family recipes you all adore, serve them as guests arrive for your ceremony or cocktail hour.

Tip #4
Start a new tradition by lighting a candle in memory of special family members while you are getting dressed on your wedding day. Pass the candle to the next relative getting married so she can continue the tradition.

Tip # 5
One of our favorite touches was Alicia and Tony's recent wedding, where the bride used her grandmother's heirloom lace tablecloth, vintage crystal lanterns (circa 1938) from our rental decor collection and generational photos of parents and grandparents as the the backdrop for their escort card table.
